End of Year Giving

End of Year Giving

Planning For Your End-of-Year Giving

Now is an excellent time to support the charitable causes you value, while leveraging associated tax benefits. Please consider making a gift to your FFTC Gift Fund or establishing a new charitable gift fund to support your favorite organizations.

FFTC offers a number of fund options to meet your philanthropic needs, such as donor advised funds, field of interest funds and community impact funds. We accept an exceptionally wide variety of assets, such as stock*, real property, and closely held business interests.

How to gift an FFTC Donor Advised Fund
You can give an FFTC Donor Advised Fund as a gift by establishing a fund and naming the recipient as the fund advisor. Then, they can recommend grants whenever they choose to the nonprofits that matter the most to them. Learn more at www.philanthropyfocus.org.

Important Deadlines

Foundation for the Carolinas experiences higher than normal gift and grant activity at the end of the year. In order for your gift to be credited in calendar year 2026, please take note of the dates indicated below.

Gifts

  • Cash or check gifts must be received or postmarked by Dec. 31, 2026. To ensure timely processing, we strongly encourage the use of electronic payments.
  • Gifts of stock* must be received into the Foundation’s brokerage account on or before Dec. 31, 2026

Is your check (going) in the mail? USPS rule may impact year-end gifts

USPS postmarks will reflect the date a mailed item first goes through automated processing — not necessarily the day it was dropped in the mail. While subtle, this distinction could affect how your year-end charitable gifts are dated for tax purposes. Under IRS guidelines, a contribution sent through USPS is considered made on the postmarked date. If a mailed gift isn’t processed until January 1 or later, it will be credited to the new tax year — even if you mailed it on or before December 31. Click here for more information.

Grants

  • Grants to nonprofits currently on FFTC's eligible organization list (searchable on MyFFTC.org) as well as grants to organizations not yet on the list must be recommended by Dec. 4, 2026
  • If grants are recommended after Dec. 11, we cannot guarantee they will be distributed before the New Year.
  • For assistance, please contact our donor operations team at 704.973.4529 or support@fftc.org.

*If you are planning to make a gift of securities, please contact us at 704.973.4529 or support@fftc.org so we can promptly and accurately acknowledge the donation.

Guidelines for IRA Charitable Rollovers

  • Donors age 70½ or older can transfer up to $111,000 in 2026 from their IRA accounts directly to qualified public charities without having to recognize the distribution as income.
  • Under current law, IRA Charitable Rollovers may not be contributed to donor advised funds or supporting organizations. However, FFTC has other Gift Fund options that are eligible to receive lifetime distributions from IRAs, including FFTC Community Impact Funds and Scholarship Funds.
