Food Security & SNAP Benefit Disruptions
Beginning November 1, 2025, households across our region that rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may experience temporary interruptions.
More than 2 million residents in North and South Carolina depend on SNAP to put food on the table each month. With an average benefit of about $187 per person in North Carolina, this represents more than $20 million in local food assistance at risk. Even brief disruptions can force families to make impossible choices between food, housing and healthcare — while local food banks and meal programs already face significant strain.
Together, We Can Help
When our community comes together, we can bridge critical gaps caused by this disruption:
- Recommend a grant from your Donor Advised Fund – Support nonprofits focused on food security, such as food banks, neighborhood meal programs and community gardens. FFTC’s team can help connect you directly with local partners.
- Donate to an emergency nutrition fund – Organizations like Nourish Up provide food to families in crisis through a network of pantries, Meals on Wheels and other nutrition programs.
- Volunteer or host a food drive – Rally your community to collect items for neighbors in need. Partner through Share Charlotte or find food-drive resources on Nourish Up’s website.
- Donate to FFTC's Regional Relief Fund – help our communities recover when disaster or crisis disrupts daily life. From floods and storms to unexpected emergencies, this fund supports trusted local nonprofits providing essential assistance, relief and recovery services to affected residents. Donate now.
