Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund

The vision of the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund is to cultivate one community with the belief that all people should be treated with dignity and respect with a mission to fund organizations that support the LGBTQ community through the pooled financial resources of individuals, corporations and foundations.

The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund (the Fund) was created to positively impact the underfunding of nonprofit organizations serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The Fund award grants to organizations that support the LGBT community, as well as bridge building initiatives that seek to cultivate alliances and support with the non-gay community in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

The Fund is a collective giving fund and endowment initiative of Foundation For The Carolinas, and contributions are tax deductible. Click here to donate to the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund.

2017 Grant Opportunities

The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund (CLGF) will award grants, up to $2,000 per organization, to Charlotte-area organizations serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community through the establishment of the new Grassroots Lane grant program.

CLGF Grassroots Lane Grants are intended to build capacity and strengthen the effectiveness of startup organizations with or without 501(c)(3) nonprofit status serving Charlotte’s LGBT community. Allowing the CLGF to reach organizations with unmet needs that fall outside of current Basic Operating and Programs, Projects and Events (PPE) cycles, Grassroots Lane grants will be awarded to support general operations as specified in the grant proposal that fulfill the Fund’s mission:

“…to pool the resources of individual donors, stakeholders and corporate sponsors to selectively fund grants that support LGBTQ individuals and families with the belief that all people should be treated with equal respect and dignity in all facets of the community.”

Previous recipients of CLGF"s Basic Operating and Program, Project and Events grants are not eligible to apply.

Click here for additional information about the Grassroot Lane grant program and an applicaiton guide.

The 2017 Basic Operating and Program, Projects and Events grant application period is closed. Thank you to the CLGF Stakeholders who made this funding possible with their generous gifts and thank you to the organizations that applied for funding.  Funding will be provided to the community through the grant programs below.

Programs, Projects, and Events (PPE) Grants are awarded to encourage 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations to serve the LGBT community either directly or in partnership with another organization(s). LGBT as well as non-LGBT organizations are eligible for a PPE Grant of up to $5,000 for programs, projects, and events that support the mission of the CLGF:

“…to pool the resources of individual donors, stakeholders and corporate sponsors to selectively fund grants that support LGBTQ individuals and families with the belief that all people should be treated with equal respect and dignity in all facets of the community.”

CLGF Basic Operating Grants are intended to build capacity and strengthen the effectiveness of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving Charlotte’s LGBT community, outside of an HIV/AIDS focus.  Grants will be awarded to support general operations of organizations that fulfill the Fund’s mission:

“…to pool the resources of individual donors, stakeholders and corporate sponsors to selectively fund grants that support LGBTQ individuals and families with the belief that all people should be treated with equal respect and dignity in all facets of the community.”
