This year’s keynote speaker, Adam Foss, engaged our guests by sharing his own experiences and insights as one of the nation’s leading advocates for criminal justice reform. His words challenged us to consider our community’s needs and issues through a different lens, and they inspired us to rethink our approach in how we can address them.

2017 Annual Meeting

Thank you to the attendees, sponsors and presenters who made the 2017 Foundation For The Carolinas Annual Meeting a success!

A capacity crowd of more than 1,500 guests joined us on March 28 at the Charlotte Convention Center to celebrate philanthropy and leadership. We were delighted to report significant financial results for 2016 and share exciting plans for 2017.

  • Thanks to our fundholders’ generosity, FFTC’s charitable assets rose to $2.1 billion in 2016.
  • Last year was also FFTC’s second-highest ever for contributions to funds at $498 million and grantmaking at $312 million.
  • We announced that FFTC is in the process of finalizing a partnership that will lease air rights for an InterContinental Hotel above the Carolina Theatre at Belk Place. The theater’s long-awaited renovation will start construction in May.

Prior to the Annual Meeting, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force released its recommendations to improve economic opportunity in our community. As part of our meeting, we examined one of the three determinants that have been identified as key to upward mobility: early care and education. The following videos tell the story of why universal access to quality child care and early education is so critically important, and they highlight how people and organizations are working together to address it.
