What is the WE Care Fund?
The WE Care Fund provides a way for Wells Fargo to support team members - and for team members to support each other - in severe financial hardship resulting from a catastrophic event in a team member’s life beyond his or her control. WE Care grants help team members get back on their feet with basic necessities and are intended for use by those who do not have other resources to help themselves. WE Care is a philanthropic program, it is not a benefit to Wells Fargo team members. As such, certain charitable income guidelines apply.

Who can apply?
All active team members and team members on leave with pay (including Short Term Disability and Paid Time Off) are eligible to participate. The program does not cover contract workers, temporary employees, joint venture employees, team members on unpaid leaves or Long Term Disability or retirees.

What type of help does WE Care provide?
One-time grants of up to $10,000 may be awarded to cover expenses resulting from a catastrophe caused by a natural disaster, national emergency or personal/family crisis for which a team member does not have adequate financial resources and could not be expected to be adequately prepared through responsible financial planning and budgeting. Types of assistance that are considered:

  • help with basic living expenses
  • home repairs from a disaster
  • extraordinary medical expenses of a short-term nature not covered by insurance.

Expenses must be a result of an event that has occurred after the team member's hire date of employment with Wells Fargo and the applicants must show a workable plan for recovery.  Priority is given to those who have done everything possible to help themselves first. Recipients are not required to pay taxes on grants received.

The We Care Fund will not grant assistance with:

  • legal fees
  • expenses associated with divorce settlements or child custody cases
  • lost compensation due to missed time from work
  • automobile repair or routine maintenance
  • insurance premiums and items covered by insurance policies
  • routine, on-going, long-term, and elective medical expenses
  • credit card or personal pay day loan debt
  • on-going financial problems
  • benefits during new hire waiting periods
  • expenses associated with non-immediate family members
  • child care

What if I have financial difficulties but don't meet all these requirements?
For team members who do not meet these guidelines but are having financial difficulties, Wells Fargo’s Employee Assistance Consulting (EAC) service is available for assistance. Consultation is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is provided at no cost to team members. Call 1-888-327-0027 or go online to http://eac.portal.wellsfargo.com/portal/site/eac/.

What if I’ve been impacted by a disaster?
A specially designed application has been created for team members affected by disasters. This application is shorter than the Emergency Hardship application with an expedited turnaround time. Please click here for the WE Care Grant Application for Assistance. EAC is also available for assistance. Consultation is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is provided at no cost to team members. Call 1-888-327-0027 or go online to http://eac.portal.wellsfargo.com/portal/site/eac/. WE Care is not the first responder; in the event of a disaster team members should contact the American Red Cross for on the ground immediate assistance.

Who runs the WE Care Fund?
The WE Care Fund is administered by Foundation For The Carolinas, a nonprofit organization that serves donors, communities and a broad range of charitable purposes. As a non-Wells Fargo entity, the Foundation has been designated to manage the grant processing and administrative aspects of the WE Care Program. A Review Committee of non-Wells Fargo team members meets weekly to review applications and decide on awards. Information provided is held in strict confidence.

How do I contribute to the WE Care Fund?
The Fund is open for donations via payroll deduction. To contribute, call Wells Fargo Donor Support at 1-888-518-4438. A specialist will walk you through the steps to process and confirm your pledge.

Employee-based tax-exempt disaster relief and emergency hardship programs must benefit an indefinite charitable class; therefore, We Care cannot limit its assistance to specific team members, including victims of a particular disaster or from a specific geographic location.

To make one time contributions by credit card or check, please visit the WE Care Donate Online Page or contact Foundation For The Carolinas at 1-800-973-7244. Please make checks payable to Foundation For The Carolinas, listing We Care on the memo line of your check.
