Types of Funds

There are many types of funds available to create a lasting legacy. Some distribute funds to charities during the donor’s lifetime. Others are endowments funded after death. Here are some examples to assist you in beginning the process.

Donor Advised Funds
Minimum $10,000

  • Established by the donor(s) to make donations to charitable organizations.
  • Donor recommends distributions to organizations, including many local Jewish agencies and synagogues.

Endowment Fund
Minimum $10,000

  • Established by the donor(s) to permanently preserve the principal of the fund.
  • Donor states the purpose and names the beneficiaries.
  • Distributions are made annually based on spending rate.

Organization-Advised Endowment Fund
Minimum $10,000

  • Established by not-for-profit agency to preserve the principal of the fund.
  • Organization may state a specific purpose for the fund.
  • Distributions are made based on the spending rate.
  • Additional contributions can be made at any time in any amount.

Organization Custodial Fund
Non-Endowed Minimum $10,000

  • Not-for-profit organization may state a specific purpose for the fund.
  • Distributions can be made from both principal and earnings.
  • Additional contributions can be made at any time in any amount.
