The presence of the Harvey B. Gantt Center for Afro-American Culture, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Knight Theatre, and new Mint Museum facilities have transformed the landscape of uptown Charlotte with striking architecture and engaging public spaces. Helping these new institutions, as well as other treasured arts and cultural organizations, stay strong and vibrant for decades to come, is the goal of the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust.
The Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust (GCCT), a supporting foundation of both Foundation For The Carolinas and Arts & Science Council, serves as an important partner to many cultural organizations in our region. GCCT contributes to the ongoing success of Charlotte’s new Levine Center for the Arts by managing and investing the $83 million raised by the Campaign for Cultural Facilities, and is dedicated to building endowments for our most important cultural organizations through bequests and investment management.
“The endowments of Charlotte’s cultural organizations are less well developed than peer institutions in comparably-sized cities,” says Chris McLeod, executive director of the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust. “That’s why it’s so critical that we continue to educate and inspire members of our community to consider making a bequest to their favorite cultural organizations – to ensure that the endowments continue to grow.” Endowment funds play an important role in creating the ongoing health and vitality of many nonprofit institutions because of they create steady, dependable sources of income that allow organizations to navigate economic downturns and plan for the future.
Charlotte’s cultural organizations, old and new, are no exception. The Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust aims to help these institutions continue to build firm foundations for an enduring future.
