Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund

The mission of the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund is to cultivate one community that supports lesbian and gay individuals and families, with the belief that all people should be treated with equal respect and dignity in all facets of the community.

The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund (the Fund) was created to positively impact the underfunding of nonprofit organizations serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The Fund award grants to organizations that support the LGBT community, as well as bridge building initiatives that seek to cultivate alliances and support with the non-gay community in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

The Fund is a collective giving fund and endowment initiative of Foundation For The Carolinas, and contributions are tax deductible. Click here to donate to the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund.

7th Annual Happening!

Please join us on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 for the 7thAnnual Happening! – a luncheon to raise awareness of the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund and showcase the work of our grant recipients. After two years of a sell-out, we are moving to the Westin in Uptown Charlotte so we can accommodate the growing demand for the event. Please click here to view the invitation.

To become a table captain, please contact Jeremiah Nelson, jeremiah.nelson@uncc.edu.

2014 Grant Opportunities

The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund is pleased to announce 2014 grant opportunities in two programs: Basic Operating Grants and Program, Project and Events Grants. Each grant program strives to support the Fund’s mission, "To cultivate one community that supports lesbian and gay individuals and families, with the belief that all people should be treated with equal respect and dignity in all facets of the community.”

Basic Operating Grants Program

Basic Operating Grants are intended to build capacity and strengthen the infrastructure of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving Charlotte’s LGBT community, outside of an HIV/AIDS focus.  Grants will be awarded to support general operations of organizations that fulfill the Fund’s mission.  Nonprofit organizations with a primary mission of service the LGBT population may apply for 1 (one) Basic Operating Grant annually.

Program, Project and Events Grant Program

The Charlotte Lesbian Gay Fund’s Program, Project and Event (“PPE”) Grants, formerly called Community Connections Grants, are awarded to encourage 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations to serve the LGBT community either directly or in partnership with another organization(s).  LGBT and non-LGBT organizations may be eligible to apply for up to two (2) PPE Grants of up to $5,000 per grant. Forging relationships with the non-gay, allied community creates an opportunity for nonprofit organizations, schools and congregations to fulfill the Fund’s mission.

The 2014 Grant Cycle is now closed.  Please continue to check this page for future funding opportunities.

2013 Grants

In 2013, the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund granted $120,000 to support Charlotte-area organizations serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and its community partners. For a complete list of 2013 grants, please click on the grant program name below.

Thank you to the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund Stakeholders whose gifts make these grants possible.
