New Parents Encouraged to Read to Kids

Brain development research has shown that parents who read aloud to their child every day increase the child's brain capacity for language and literacy skills.  It is one of the most important things a parent can do to prepare their child for learning to read.

Read to Me, a project of the Cherokee County Public Library, connects with women who give birth at Gaffney's Upstate Carolina Medial Center and provides them with a literacy packet.  A $2,780 grant from the Cherokee County Community Foundation funded items for the packet such as the children's classic Goodnight Moon.

$5,000 to the Cherokee Pregnancy Center
to provide for a registered nurse.
