Critical Need Response Fund A fund to support our neighbors in crisis
 | Host Stacey Simms interviews Carol Hardison, Executive Director of Crisis Assistance Ministry, during the live WTVI broadcast of The Carolinas Respond: A Fundraiser for Critical Needs. The broadcast was a fundraising effort for the Critical Need
Response Fund. |
Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have not been immune to the global economic crisis. The number of citizens in our community facing dire circumstances is dramatically on the rise.
The Critical Need Response Fund was launched in December 2008 with a
$1 million gift from Charlotte philanthropists Sandra and Leon Levine. The fund is a partnership program of The Leon Levine Foundation, Mecklenburg Ministries, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Central Carolinas and Foundation For The Carolinas, who called on a task force of citizen leaders to raise and distribute funds to shelter, feed, clothe and keep warm those in need through the winter months.
Grants were awarded from December 2008 through April 16, 2009, to local nonprofit service providers that offered the best strategies to address well-documented increases in case work due to the economic crisis.
The Critical Need Response Fund is held at Foundation For The Carolinas, and 100 percent of the funds have been distributed in grants, with no fees charged by the Foundation to administer the Fund.
