Belk Hits the Road with Mobile Mammography Campaign

The BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center will visit more than 100 cities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee in 2013.

Both performance and innovation are at the heart of Foundation For the Carolinas’ services to fundholders, prompting corporations to seek our assistance with increasing frequency. Through our Center for Corporate Philanthropy, Belk Corporation and Charlotte Radiology have created an innovative breast cancer screening and awareness program: the BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center.

This year, the mobile center will travel to more than 100 cities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee where Belk stores are located, providing free, convenient mammogram screenings for women. All screening exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology's licensed, female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist, specialized in breast imaging, interprets the mammogram and sends confidential results to the patient and her primary care physician.

“Having the BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center travel to the cities where our associates and customers live and work underscores what we've being saying for a long time – awareness and early detection saves lives," said Jessica Graham, Belk's vice president of communications and community relations.

The campaign, which launched in January 2013, has already delivered over 2,000 free screening exams to date. Jessica Graham added, “We couldn’t do this without our unique partnership with Foundation For The Carolinas.”

Belk Corporation was able to set up this innovative charitable service by establishing a corporate FFTC Donor Advised Fund with the Center for Corporate Philanthropy. To help achieve Belk’s charitable purpose in breast cancer awareness, FFTC will hold and distribute more than $6 million in partnership with Charlotte Radiology over the next five years.

FFTC is honored to be in partnership with the Belk Corporation and Charlotte Radiology to improve access to healthcare for thousands of women across the Southeast.
